24th Annual Toys In The Sun Run 2011 in Broward County, FL
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (Dec 11, 2011) DAMN, writers block............
Ok, lets try. This was the 24th annual for the Toys In The Sun Run. Dave and Debbie Amchir did an awesome job as usual. Can't forget Joey, he kicked ass this year.
Welcome to our newest site for hosting the beginning of the worlds largest toy run, Mardi Gras Casino. When you come to Florida, be sure to visit this awesome venue. Once again, the City of Sunrise allowed us to use Markham Park for the final destination. And I can't go on without thanking ALL the different police departments for keeping the entire route completely safe for us again this year. I'm not sure of the number of police involved in this years event, but it had to be in the hundreds.
Again this year, in spite of the rain 'Showers' there was over 35,000 motorcycles in the parade this year. There had to be another couple hundred vehicles, including a couple fire trucks, and let's not forget the Cruisers of South Florida Car Club with another hundred or so vehicles. All in all, the entire parade route was shut down for over 3 hours. Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is one awesome traffic jam!!!
At the park there were the usual vendors, and if you wanted food, well, there were so many food vendors with all different kinds of fare it was quite difficult to choose what to eat. And of course, Budweiser was there!
This years entertainment was also pretty diversified, on one stage David Allen Coe performed, and shortly after that, Travis Tritt was on the other stage. What a day. There was even a group of cloggers that performed acapella.
There was also a check presentation which provides the funds to assist The Joe DiMaggio Hospitals' endeavors with the children, and the toy drive, well, it looked kinda poor this year, with less than a semi load. Quite different from a few years ago when there were over 3 semi loads of toys. All I can say about this is ECONOMY. On another note, to the persons spotted leaving the park with toys still attached to their bikes....the kids would like to thank you for NOT receiving toys. Enough of my rant.....for now.
Our gratitude goes out to all who allowed us to video tape and photograph them, and of course to Dave and Debbie and all the staff of the event for their unselfish efforts to help those without to receive gifts during this Christmas Season.
High Definition videos of the event have been posted throughout the photo coverage pages.
